Today we woke up late so we had late dinner at our usual kopitiam. Nothing special happen when you wake up late in the day. All the good stuff usually happens early in  the day.

As we started to settle ourselves in the kopitiam, Mark couldn’t help noticing a table behind us. Oh they are normal well-being people, don’t worry about that. Husband and wife having dinner with a friend (i suppose). What is unusual was on their table. Two bottle of red wine (didn’t manage to read the label but it’s definitely table wine) and one bottle of Super Skol. For those who don’t know what Super Skol is, Super Skol is a full-bodied strong lager that contains 9% alcohol which is slightly sweeter with lower bitterness but with a strong fruity/floral character. You can get it at any kopitiam or 7-11. It’s cheaper then Tiger or Carlsberg. Anyway, instead of drinking those wines and beer separately, they decided to mix them and create a concoction. It look like Fanta Grape Soda. THAT IS JUST WEIRD. People with preference. Though the wine is cheap, please don’t try to spoil it and make it worst.

The lesson of the story is, don’t ruin your drinks people. Beer and wine can’t mix it into a cocktail!

Gem Island aka Pulau Gemia

Post beach blues is over. As much as I want to keep being lazy, I can’t. Time is money, sad to say.

I promise some pictures from Gem Island after our trip so here it is. The trip was scheduled on 09th Oct 2009 til 11th Oct 2009. Gem Island is located at Marang, a district of the East Coast state Terengganu, Malaysia. It’s your choice to go there by air or land. We chose air. Hire a cab from the airport once you arrive. It’ll just cost you RM50 for the half hour journey to the jetty. From there you will need to take a 15 minutes boat ride to reach paradise. On your return journey, don’t forget to stop at Losong Town, Terengganu if you love “keropok lekor”, a Malay traditional fish cracker. If you’re not sure which stall to buy, go to Kak Yah’s Keropok Lekor as she is quite famous for them. Gem Island Resort & Spa will arrange your transportation/cab/boat ride during your return to the mainland. During our trip the monsoon was nearing. Making our trip a little murky on the sea water but still it was beautiful. Should it be during the nice sunny peak season, I am sure the sea water is amazing. The resort have 3 private beach for you to roam and there is ONLY 1 resort on the whole entire island. Talk about privacy. It’s like owning your own beach. Gem Island is a place for you to retreat and unwind from all the buzz in the city. With only 45 chalet on the whole entire island, what more can u ask.

Post Beach Blues

We just got back from Pulau Gemia aka Gem Island last week. The place was really beautiful and full of privacy. If it wasn’t for the confirmed air tickets, we would be staying another night instead of 3 days 2 nights. Standard procedure, after the beach you’ll feel lazy, period. As much as I want to post up pictures on blog/facebook etc, the laziness still lingers. So I’ll be posting those pictures soon ya..hehehe..

I needed to improvise on how to cook bacon in Stone. My babe and I was craving for it. The office doesn’t have a stove. All we got was a rice cooker. Nonetheless, craving is still craving. We got the bacon and when office hours is totally closed, i used a rice cooker to sizzle 9pcs of deliciously scrumptious bacon. It turn out beautifully as how one would use a pan. Bon appetit :)

Arthur’s Day + Black Eyed Peas

2009 September 26

25th September 2009 marks the day where Arthur Guinness celebrates his 250th years excellent brew. An innovation that is regarded as remarkable and still enjoyed around the globe until today. This event also marked the start of the heritage and legacy of Arthur worldwide. To commemorate this honorable event, Guinness have made it into a global event in celebrating Arthur’s Day in 5 country only. These 5 lucky country includes Dublin (of course), New York, Yaoundé, Lagos and our very own Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Party goers from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and globally flocked to KL to attend Arthurs’ Day.

It was a great party which was held in Sunway Lagoon. They drain the surf pool to make way for the most anticipated top line-up..*drum roll*..Black Eyed Peas and not to forget the other local acts like Reshmonu, Joe Flizzow, Danny One and Man Hand from Malaysia. MJ116 from Taiwan also performed during that night. We partied til 12am with my sister+bro in-law, Mark, Matt, John, Jo and Arvin but the night was still young and we were still pumping so off we go back to Stone MusicWorks to continue and make music :)

So let us all raise our glass to the man who brought all this together and still going strong. We salute Arthur Guinness.

S.O.S

The past 2 days was crazy in Stone MusicWorks. We were shock to come in the office late one night and discover there was a puddle of water behind the kitchen. It was a mini pool about an inch high water level. The kitchen is also wide enough to be a workshop for Mark to fix his guitars. Luckily, his equipments was above water level but sadly, the water manage to creep a little further away from the kitchen and wet the carpets. Water was leaking non-stop. Every 1 hour or so, we had to mop the floor and the water would filled up about half a bucket. So that night, Mark and I overnight in Stone. Taking our pillows and blankets along. Thank god the next day problem was resolve when Mark’s mom called the contractor ASAP. If things were to dragged on, we wouldn’t be able to go anywhere at all.

Chinese Tea Eggs aka 茶叶蛋 (cháyèdàn)

2009 September 23
by picklejuzz

Recently my babe have been craving for Chinese Tea Eggs. Wherever we go, he’ll search for them and when he found those eggs, he’ll purchase half dozen to quench his crave. Total craving. So in order to satisfy his needs (money&time as well), we have decided to do it yourself Chinese Tea Eggs.

Our first venture was to Purple Cane Tea House to get the tea mixture. Sadly, the mixture was for the portion of 15 to 20 eggs. No way can we finish and the rest of the other tea house sells the same quantity portion. So my babe found this recipe for me and I hope it works. You guys can try too. I read the review for this recipe is good. Worth a try :)

Chinese Tea Eggs

6 medium to large eggs
2 tablespoons or 2 tea bags of Chinese tea or Pu’erh
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons sugar or some uses rock sugar
4 pieces star anise
1 cinnamon stick

Boil eggs with normal water at a low heat for 3 minutes. Remove eggs from water to cool a little. Gently crack eggs evenly around. Making it into a cracking pattern and not cracking open the eggs. You still want to boil the eggs again. Use the back of a spoon if you need. This method is use not only for the cracking design they usually come with but also to let the flavours seep into the eggs. Making the eggs more porous and stronger taste.

Put eggs back into pot and add water and the rest of the ingredients. Boil the tea and simmer for 1 to 3 hours with the pot lid . If you wish for a more stronger intense flavor and color, leave the eggs simmer longer and don’t forget to add water if it gets too low and drying up.

With 6 eggs to devour, I would say it’s just the right taste and the right amount. Enjoy guys :)

Salam Aidilfitri..Maaf Zahir & Batin

2009 September 22

I know it’s been a while since the last post. Been busy with work for Hari Raya season and also for my personal preparation for the festive. For those of you who don’t really know me. I’m half Chinese, half Malay. Dad’s a Chinese and mom’s a Malay. To sum it up, I come from a mix parentage back ground and my religion is Islam..Alhumdullilah..

This year’s Raya was a little quiet compare to last year. It was also a quiet one for my family. As usual, my mom leaves on the second day of Raya but this year my sister and brother in-law will be following her..Hurray!!..This will be his first time to Kelantan and my sister’s after 5 years of absences. Usually it’s me that follow my mom. So this year I decided to take an absent. It was something that I needed to do after what happen to Jasman (the guy I was engaged to but broke up last year 2008). To face all the relatives with questions in their minds, it is not something I am ready to face. The entire clan seen him and ate with him and his family. That was the biggest relative event I ever had which is solely for me. Maybe next year I’ll go back when new happy events pop up and the old sad ones died. And lets not talk about past moments in this year’s Raya.

So on the first day of Raya, we did the customary duty of waking up in the morning and greet our parents “Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir & Batin”. Like a filial child taking both hands of parents, cupped it and kiss it gently. The Islam calls this “memberi salam”. I didn’t invite my boss this year and some colleague mates. I didn’t feel much of a Raya mood this year and I didn’t really feel like seeing them after the stress that happened at work for this festive period. So much things seems missing. Only people like Wendy+Alvin, Maggie+Danny, Anthony+Charmane, my babe, Joe Wen and Matt came who I invited. Dishes like rendang, fried vermicelli, ketupat, cookies made by my mom was a seller. By 5pm everything was squeaky clean and all that’s left is dirty dishes to wash. Thumb’s up for that. My mom don’t need to hassle with the left over food when she’s away at Kelantan. Though my spirit for Raya is high, the mood is just partial but overall I still enjoy my Raya. My babe was there to celebrate it with me and so is my family. Not to mention everyone loved my mom’s simple dishes. It is the simplest Hari Raya I ever had. Nothing more to elaborate. Now I am just waiting for the coming weeks as that’s when friends start doing open house. Second round anyone?

To my relatives and friends whom I could not manage to meet this Raya, I wish you “Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir & Batin”. Take care during the long holidays and drive safe. Love you guys.

TANGAN TAK BERJABAT,

UCAP TAK TERDENGAR,

MATA TAK BERTATAP,

TAPI IZINKAN HATI MEMOHON AMPUN,

ZAHIR & BATIN,

SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI”
